Diablo III Review – Online Gaming

Diablo III is still kicking with popularity and the feedback on the game is rolling in to the game developers. This meant only one thing… patch time. Now the question is, good or bad patch?

Lets start with the skills and overall character stats they changed. So far I’ve checked demon hunter and barbarian and both had their damages nerfed. Both the demon hunter and my barbarian are level 60 and we dropped over 3000DPS. This immediately seemed a little harsh but as we began to play more, only noticed a slight difference. Then I read more into the patch notes and it looked liked they changed some skills. Also only looking into the demon hunter and barbarian, however both of these characters received serious nerfs on skills as well (both passive and active). Basically they made the characters (once again im not sure about the others so this is just demon hunters and barbarians) quite less powerful.

Then we have mobs. They fixed a lot of mobs so they are even more powerful. An example is, some elite mobs have a skill that uses walls to block the heroes in so he can attack and the heroes can’t run. This was changed so that spells don’t get through and they are the most tactical mobs. This I personally didn’t have a problem with being a barbarian but it makes it tough for those characters that can get one shot if they stand in one place.

Now if all that wasn’t bad enough, they decided to increase the repair cost on armor. Before the patch I repaired full set of almost broken armor for no more than 4000 gold. After the patch I repair full set of almost broken armor for 23,000+ gold. Quite a big difference there. So overall this half of the patch was intended to make the game harder.

Now we have jewel crafting. This is the one part of the patch I was excited for. The gems up through flawless square were reduced in price heavily and only cost 2 gems to make instead of 3. This was a big gold saver however the higher gems still cost a pretty penny. I saved all my gems for this patch and it turned out I couldn’t really make all that much because I was already level 60 waiting for the bigger gems to come down in price. Still good for low level characters though for sure!

Last on my list for this patch was drop rate fixes. I’m not entirely sure what the drop rate was before but it seemed like after this patch the drop rate was slightly better. I also really like how they gave a breakdown of the drop rates in the patch notes to help the players better understand how they were actually going to get the best items in the game.

Overall this patch made the game a lot harder for the higher level characters, which is good and bad at the same time. Good for the company because then it make the players play more to become better and get more gear so they can beat certain parts. Bad for the players because they get more frustrated and could get tired of the game. Drop rate explanation was good and jewel crafting update good for the lower levels.
